Foreign names in legal matters presentaparticular challenge for legal professionals, and thePronouncingDictionary of United States Supreme Court—compiled byacollaboration between the Yale Law School and the YaleUniversityLinguistics Department—strives to help conscientiouslawyers,judges, teachers, students, and journalists correctlypronounceoften-perplexing case names.Drawing on textbooks, recordings, accounts by litigantsorcounsel, pronunciation guides, journalism, and surveys, wehaveidentified those Supreme Court cases that are most susceptibleofmispronunciation and determined the proper pronunciation.
